Two men from Saugus have been indicted as part of an alleged large-scale scheme to defraud multiple insurance carriers through their auto body business, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

Fabio Rodrigo Jordao Correa, 31, of Saugus, was described by District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office as one of two alleged “masterminds” of the scheme. He has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit larceny over $1,200, six counts of larceny over $1,200, one count of common and notorious thief, 11 counts of false or fraudulent insurance claims, and one count of identity fraud.

Tabajara Alves Ribeiro, 23, also of Saugus, was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit larceny over $1,200.

Also indicted were Jose Manuel Gordon, 49, of Roxbury; Wanda Greene, 56, of Revere; Jhon Alexander Lopera Munera, 40, of Revere; and Edwin Alexander Lopera Munera, 33, of Pawtucket, R.I. The latter two were described as fugitives in a press release from the district attorney’s office and are believed to be in Colombia. Jhon Lupera Munera was also described as one of the alleged “masterminds.”

The indictments come following a two-year investigation of Riviera Auto Body, also referred to as FT Auto in the release, in Everett by the district attorney’s office, the Everett Police Department, and the Massachusetts Insurance Fraud Bureau.

The release says the accused allegedly submitted insurance claims for the shop’s customers in ways that defrauded more than $1 million in payments from insurance carriers.

“The claims were false in a variety of ways: they often included descriptions of automobile collisions which had never occurred, or collisions in which the damage to the vehicles were inflated, or damage to the vehicle was done at the shop itself and was not the result of a collision,” the release reads.

The defendants allegedly also listed their own aliases and stolen identities as drivers of vehicles they reported as involved in the collision, according to the release.

The release also alleges that Greene, who was a clerk at a Registry of Motor Vehicles branch in Revere, was bribed with electronic payments and gift cards to conduct RMV queries and transactions at Jhon Lopera Munera’s request.

Assistant District Attorney Graham Van Epps has been assigned to the case.
