Liverpool are reportedly favourites ahead of Manchester United to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez next summer.
The Argentine joined the Portuguese outfit from River Plate last summer and he has since been a revelation with several stand-out displays.
The 21-year-old was exceptional for Benfica in the Champions League and he managed to carry his form to the World Cup with Argentina.
He is now on the radar of several elite European clubs, but Record claim that the Reds are the clear favourites to sign him next summer.
Fernandez is currently protected by a release clause of €120 million, but he could be signed for around €100m at the end of the season.
Liverpool are ready to meet Benfica’s transfer demands. It is added that they already have a verbal agreement with the player and his agent.
The news will come as a huge blow for the Red Devils, who may have to look elsewhere in their pursuit of a young central midfielder.
