SAUGUS — Two people were found dead inside an apartment building on Founders Way on Wednesday afternoon, and evidence of narcotics use was visible, officials said.

Saugus Police and Fire responded to 2206 Founders Way Wednesday afternoon after two victims were found dead there, State Police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement. Exposed substances were found inside the apartment, prompting a response from the state Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials division to ensure the scene was “safe for further investigation.”

A spokesman for DFS referred comment on the incident to the Essex County district attorney’s office, but said hazmat teams are typically called to scenes when “first responders observe hazardous — or unknown but potentially hazardous — substances.”
